In Home Care Givers

Snickers called me today and had been talking with one of the tennants where Mom lives and was informed that many of the other folks there have "Care Givers" that come in and help with things like laundry and routine house cleaning. Apparently this is covered on their health insurance and all it takes is a call to the Doctor to start the ball rolling for this service. So, I called our family Doctor and left a message with his nurse on this topic. Ladybug told me about an ad she saw on TV about this and gave me a link for it and I have posted it down in the lower right of the page under "Other Sources of Info".

  1. OK. Here is the latest on the "In home care giver" thing. I called the Dr. and his nurse "Michelle" gave me a 1-800 number to call for setting up the evaluation interview. I called that number and got "Stormy" who said I needed to call Medical Park at 253-530-8000. I called that number and got "Sharon" who said I needed to call Home Health Clinic at 253-301- 6400. I called that number and got "Diana" who said they could not help me and I needed a Dr. referral but at my persistence, she finally transferred me to "Intake" where I got "Judy" who began to explain all the reasons why they may not be able to help and why. I told Judy that I understand all of that and all I wanted to do was to set up an evaluation to see what may or may not be able to be done for Mom in regard to in home care and then we would go from there but that one of us kids needs to be there when it happens because Mom would do better if we are there with her for it. Judy said she would contact Mom's Dr. and call me back to set up the interview with Mom possibly next week some time. THANK YOU Michelle, Stormy, Sharon, Diana, and Judy. I will be waiting for the call for the interview.

  2. Well, the Nurse, Mark, called me yesterday morning about doing the evaluation interview with Mom. He said he had already talked to her on the phone and was going to be there at 10AM. I buzzed over and was there when he arrived. All went well and he determined that Mom did not need the In Home "Health" care program but that she may qualify for some In Home "Domestic" care. He gave me a booklet with contact information to several services and pointed me to the number for "Senior Service Resources" and said that is the place to start. He said Mom seemed to have a system that was working for her on her medications and that she probably only needs a little help with things like laundry, light house cleaning and maybe meal preparation.

  3. Last week I called the number for the In Home Care Service for Seniors that was in the book Nurse Mark gave me. After being forwarded to a couple of other numbers I finally got a person that took Mom's information and said that she would send Mom some paperwork that would require a couple of signatures and this would start things going toward getting Mom some Domestic Assistance but there were over a hundred people arleady on a waiting list ahead of Mom and it could take anywhere from two months to two years before a Chores Volunteer can get assigned to her.

I called Mom and told her that these items would be coming in the mail the early part of this week and when they arrive, let me know so that I can go over them with her. I also told her that there are a lot of people already ahead of her on a waiting list for this service. So far, Mom has not mentioned anything about the paperwork coming in the mail.
